FAQ

A vault is an on-chain investment pool on the Hyperliquid Perpetual Exchange. One person — the leader — controls the trading strategy. Everyone else — depositors — contributes capital and shares the results.

Returns and risks flow through proportionally. If the vault makes 10%, every depositor’s equity grows by 10% (minus the leader’s commission). If it loses 10%, everyone absorbs that loss in the same proportion.

You don’t need to trade. Here’s the workflow:

  1. Go to hlvaults.com.
  2. Connect your wallet.
  3. Browse the vault grid or leaderboard.
  4. Deposit into a vault that matches your risk tolerance.
  5. Monitor performance on the vault detail page.
  6. Withdraw at any time — subject to any lockup period.

The leader handles all trading decisions. You earn or lose based on their performance.

Deposit minimums are set by each vault leader and vary across vaults. Check the vault detail page for the specific vault’s requirements.

Most vaults allow withdrawals on demand. Some impose lockup periods — a minimum holding period after depositing during which your capital is locked. The vault detail page shows the lockup schedule for each vault.

Your deposited capital stays in the vault’s smart contract on Hyperliquid. The leader has trading authority — they can open and close positions using the pooled funds — but they cannot withdraw your capital. Only you can withdraw your deposit and any accrued returns.

No. HL Vaults is a read-only analytics tool. It does not custody funds, execute trades, or interact with Hyperliquid on your behalf. It shows you data so you can make informed decisions — but all actions (deposits, withdrawals, trading) happen directly on Hyperliquid.

Can I use the app without connecting my wallet?

Section titled “Can I use the app without connecting my wallet?”

Yes. Most features work without a wallet connection: the vault grid, leaderboard, vault detail pages, Signals & Intelligence, and the SQL Analyzer. You only need to connect your wallet for portfolio features — seeing your positions, PnL, and vault-specific data tied to your address. See Wallet Connection & Privacy for details.

No standalone app. The site works on mobile browsers and is fully responsive. No installation required.

Enable Privacy Mode in Settings. It masks USD amounts and wallet addresses across the entire UI. Configure it to activate automatically after a period of inactivity, and use Cmd+Shift+H (Ctrl+Shift+H on Windows) to toggle it instantly.

Vaults are ranked using configurable criteria. The default sort considers LP grade, DP grade, TVL, and recent performance. You can change the ranking by adjusting your screen settings — reorder by any column in either direction.

What’s the difference between LP and DP?

Section titled “What’s the difference between LP and DP?”

LP (Leader Performance) measures how well the vault leader is trading — their personal annualized PnL.

DP (Depositor Performance) measures how well depositors are actually doing in that vault — the net returns after the leader’s commission.

A vault with strong LP but weak DP is a red flag. It often means unfavorable fee timing or deposit restrictions that erode depositor returns compared to the leader’s own results. See Performance Metrics for the full methodology.

Grades (A through F) give you a quick quality assessment for any vault. You set the performance thresholds that determine each grade in Settings. The same data, graded by your standards.

Tags are automatic labels assigned to vaults based on their characteristics — “Top Leader,” “Rising Star,” “High Risk,” and others. They help you filter and identify vaults at a glance without digging into individual metrics. See Tags Reference for the full list.

Alerts notify you when vaults hit specific conditions — APR exceeding a threshold, drawdown passing a limit, a new vault being created. You can scope alerts to the entire vault set or individual vaults. See Alerts.

Yes, on Growth and above. Custom screens let you save specific column sets, filters, and sorting configurations. Switch between them without rebuilding your view each time. See Screens & Filters.

★ Pro Pro feature. The Signals & Intelligence tab gives you two layers of insight on any vault:

  • Deterministic signals — computed purely from on-chain data. No AI involved. These include the vault’s trading style fingerprint, bias profile, concentration risk, and anomaly detection.
  • AI-powered commentary — generated by an LLM when you’ve configured a provider. You can ask natural language questions about any vault and get contextual answers.

See Signals & Intelligence.

★ Pro Pro feature. The SQL Analyzer lets you write and run SQL queries against vault data directly in the browser. The entire vault dataset is available as database tables. See SQL Analyzer.

The leaderboard isn’t loading. What should I do?

Section titled “The leaderboard isn’t loading. What should I do?”

Try refreshing the page first. If it keeps failing, check your internet connection, clear your browser cache, or try a different browser.

Charts require WebGL support. Try updating your browser or enabling hardware acceleration in your browser settings.

The AI feature isn’t working. How do I fix it?

Section titled “The AI feature isn’t working. How do I fix it?”

Make sure you’ve configured a valid AI provider in Settings. Check that your API key is correct and has sufficient credits. Use the Test Connection button to verify.

My alerts aren’t firing. What’s wrong?

Section titled “My alerts aren’t firing. What’s wrong?”

Review your alert conditions — they may be too restrictive. Also check that notifications are enabled in your browser. Some browsers block notification permissions by default.

Go to Settings and use the Export Annotations option. It downloads your vault notes and screen layouts as a JSON file.
